California crafts an abundance of premium wines. The most visible of these are reds. Californian Chardonnay, once derided for heavy-handed winemaking, is driving an emergence of elegant white wine production in the region. Overpowering new oak maturation is giving way to more gentle, aromatic and complex styles that offer bright, refreshing acidity.
